The benefits you receive may cover some or all of the costs associated with your type of disability. However, it is vital to apply for these benefits early as the process may take several months.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\"><b>Employment Insurance (EI)<\/b><\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/services\/benefits\/ei\/ei-sickness.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Employment Insurance<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or EI, you may be eligible to claim up to 15 weeks of disability if you cannot work due to medical reasons. This benefit pays up to 55% of your regular wage with a $595 cap per week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you start a claim between September 26 and November 20, 2021, you may receive a minimum of $300 a week before taxes. If you are eligible, you may receive more depending on your contributions to the CPP. The average monthly amount received for disability benefits is $1,031.55 and a maximum of $1,413.66 (2021).<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\"><b>CPP Children\u2019s Benefits for Dependents Under 25<\/b><\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CPP Disability Benefits extend to the children of a disabled person receiving CPP disability benefits. This program pays each dependent child or ward of disabled contributors a monthly amount if the child is:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">under 18<\/span><\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">under 25 and enrolled full time at a recognized higher education institution<\/span><\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the natural or adopted child of the contributor<\/span><\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the custody and control of the contributor<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\"><b>Disability Benefits for Veterans<\/b><\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Veteran Affairs of Canada extends financial, tax-free support to veterans or active members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police or the Canadian Armed Forces diagnosed with a disability or medical condition due to their service.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Certain civilians and veterans who served in the Second World War and Korean War (including the Merchant Navy) are eligible. Successful applicants to this program will receive pain and suffering compensation (lifetime monthly or lump sum) or disability pension (lifetime monthly).<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\"><b>Ontario Disability Support Program<\/b><\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you have a disability and are not eligible for other disability benefits, you may qualify for the Ontario Disability Support Program. The program is for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/diamondlaw.ca\/guides\/claiming-long-term-disability-ltd\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">people with disabilities<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> living in Ontario who need help with their living expenses. Some of the costs that this program may cover include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Medical expenses such as prescription drugs and dental care<\/span><\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Living expenses, including food, rent, and clothing<\/span><\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Help in finding employment<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Suppose you are not eligible for federal benefits and you are not in Ontario. In that case, you may still be eligible for programs and plans in your province or territory if you are living with a disability. You can use the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/srv138.services.gc.ca\/daf\/q?id=b8939ed6-78a1-43e9-b18f-9b6b93de8920&amp;GoCTemplateCulture=en-CA\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Benefits Finder<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the Government of Canada website. You will most likely find you are eligible for social assistance, workers&#8217; compensation, and other provincial and territorial resources.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\"><b>Social Assistance<\/b><\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Social assistance benefits you may receive from your province or territory, municipal government, or First Nation are dependent on your income, savings, and investments. This type of program may cover the cost of your medications, dental services, and medical aids or devices in part or whole.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\"><b>Workers&#8217; Compensation<\/b><\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You may be qualified to get benefits from the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccohs.ca\/oshanswers\/information\/wcb_canada.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Workers&#8217; Compensation Board<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in your province or territory if your disability is a consequence of a work-related accident or illness.\u00a0 If you do qualify for workers&#8217; compensation, it might affect your EI sickness benefits.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\"><b>Provincial and Territorial Resources<\/b><\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each province and territory may have its programs for extending financial support to people living with a disability.
